Faridabad, 15 February: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday inspected the Faridabad bypass site and Package 1 and 2 of the Delhi-Sohna Expressway on National Highway-148A, including the spur of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The project is being developed under the Bharatmala project on hybrid annuity mode at a cost of Rs 3565 crore and is spread over 33 kilometers. Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar was also present on the occasion. He inspected the Delhi Mumbai Vadodara Link Expressway from Palla Pul in Faridabad to Delhi Kalindi Kunj along with the officials of the National Highway and gave necessary directions to the officials while taking a close look. DC Vikram Singh welcomed the Union Ministers on their arrival in Faridabad by presenting them with a bouquet.

The 60-kilometer long DND-Faridabad-Sohna and Jewar Expressway (NH-148NA) corridor starts near the DND flyover and passes through Faridabad. It crosses NH-19 near Ballabgarh bypass and Kail village and ends near Sohna on the Peripheral Expressway near the intersection of Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) section to the west. The Delhi Mumbai Expressway is being developed in three construction packages (PKG 1, 2 and 3). On completion of the project, direct connectivity will be provided to the traffic passing through here. It will provide access to North-East Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Jaipur, Ahmedabad towards Vadodara, Mumbai on NH-48 (Old NH-8) and Kanpur, Lucknow, Kolkata. It will eventually reduce congestion in Delhi through NH-19 (Old NH-2). The connectivity of the NCR region to Jewar International Airport is also being developed. It is connected to this alignment at 33 kilometers.

PKG-1 starts from DND Maharani Bagh and passes through Khijrabad, Batla House and Okhla Vihar, Yamuna River West Bank, Nahar Par Colony and Jasola Vihar alignment, the work of which is under construction since January 2022. The current physical progress is 73 percent and the work is likely to be completed by December 2024. The project of PKG-1 starts near the junction with Jaitapur Pushta Road and ends at the junction on the dividing road of Sector 62-65 of HUDA, the work of which is under construction. The work, which started in August 2021, has a current physical progress of 83 percent and is likely to be completed by May 2024.

The project of PKG-3 starts near Sector 62-65 dividing road along Jaitapur Pushta Road and ends at the junction near the intersection of Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP). The work on the Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE) and Delhi Mumbai section of the Expressway near Sohna was completed in May 2023. This extensive infrastructure initiative seamlessly connects major highways – the Straight Noida Delhi Flyway, Delhi-Meerut, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP), NH-2 (Delhi-Agra), Delhi Mumbai Expressway and Jewar Airport Connectivity Expressway.

Incorporating a 6-lane access-controlled highway with 3-lane service roads on either side in the brownfield stretch, the urban project integrates 8 elevated sections (total length 12.034 km), 10 flyovers, 6 VUPs, 11 LVUPs, 13 minor bridges including 1 ROB, 1 RUB, 6 bus bays and 102 box culverts. Spanning the metro line at 4 locations at a maximum height of about 27 meters, it includes vertical gardening on the slopes for aesthetic, physical, economic and environmental benefits. A sound barrier along the elevated sections reduces noise pollution, while 10 hectares of barren land, once used for fly ash dumping, is being planted for the Jungle Safari project started by the Delhi government.
