Third-Gender Community to Encourage Voter Participation in Election
Faridabad: In a significant move towards inclusivity and democratic participation, members of the third-gender community are gearing up to play a pivotal role in promoting voter engagement ahead of the upcoming elections.
Under the guidance of District Election Officer Vikram Singh, Assistant District Collector (ADC) Anand Sharma convened a meeting with representatives of the third-gender community at his office on Friday. The aim was to integrate the third-gender community into the electoral process and empower them to encourage voter turnout.
ADC Anand Sharma, who also serves as the District Nodal Officer for the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign, emphasized the importance of the third-gender community’s involvement in spreading awareness about the electoral process. He urged them not only to exercise their own voting rights but also to motivate others to participate in the “mega festival of democracy” scheduled for May 25.
This initiative follows directives from the Election Commission of India, which emphasizes the importance of inclusive voter participation across all demographics. ADC Anand Sharma highlighted the district administration’s efforts to ensure that senior citizens and persons with disabilities have access to necessary facilities for casting their votes, with support from the District Red Cross Society.
The Election Commission’s detailed guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for facilitating postal voting for senior citizens above 80 years old were also discussed during the meeting, underscoring the commitment to providing accessible voting options.
As part of the ongoing SVEEP initiative, members of the third-gender community will actively engage with voters to raise awareness about the electoral process and the importance of exercising their franchise. This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and civic engagement in the electoral landscape.
