New Delhi, 17 February: The Indian women’s badminton team soared to historic heights on Friday, crushing Hong Kong 3-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships for the first time ever. This achievement comes on the heels of their stunning upset against China in the group stage.

Leading the charge was two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, who battled back from a second-game wobble to defeat Lo Sin Yan Happy. Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa secured the tie with a dominant doubles win, and Ashmita Chaliha sealed the deal with a straight-sets victory. However, the Indian men’s team tasted heartbreak in a close 2-3 defeat to Japan. Despite Kidambi Srikanth winning the first singles and pushing Kento Momota to the brink in the final match, the legendary Japanese player snatched victory, leaving India just short of the semi-finals. Overall, it was a mixed day for Indian badminton. The women’s team made history and secured a medal, while the men came agonizingly close to a similar feat. All eyes now turn to the semi-final where the women will face top seeds Japan, looking to continue their remarkable run.
