Indian pacer Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup, to return for Bangladesh series
New Delhi: Team India has suffered a major blow ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to begin in June in the United States and West Indies. Star pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the global tournament, confirmed BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Shami, who was the highest wicket-taker for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, had recently undergone surgery for his heel in London. He is now expected to return to action for the two-Test and three-T20I series against Bangladesh in September.
“Shami has undergone surgery and is back in India. He is likely to return for the home series against Bangladesh,” Shah said. Meanwhile, Shah also provided an update on KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the last four Tests of the England series due to a right quadriceps injury.
“The wicketkeeper-batsman has had an injection and has started rehab at the NCA. He is expected to play for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL,” Shah said.
