Cricket fever reached a new high today, July 4th, as the victorious Indian cricket team arrived in Delhi after clinching the much-coveted T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados. The team, along with support staff, touched down at the Delhi airport in the morning to a rousing reception.

Following a brief rest at the luxurious Hotel ITC Maurya, the excitement continued as the team, led by Captain Rohit Sharma, headed straight to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. The occasion was marked by a special presentation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a gesture of respect and national pride, the BCCI presented a customized jersey emblazoned with “Namo-1” to PM Modi, signifying his unwavering support for the team.

The celebrations didn’t stop there. Team India then embarked on the next leg of their homecoming journey, flying to Mumbai.

Their triumphant return comes after a thrilling tournament where India showcased exceptional skill and determination. The team’s dominance culminated in a nail-biting final against South Africa. India emerged victorious, defeating the Proteas by a narrow margin of 7 runs, and finally reclaiming the T20 World Cup title after a long wait of 17 years.

The journey back home wasn’t without its challenges. A powerful cyclone forced the team to remain stranded in Barbados for a few days. Thankfully, the BCCI, under the leadership of secretary Jay Shah, ensured a smooth return by arranging a special charter flight to fly the team back to Delhi.

The excitement surrounding the team’s arrival was palpable. The Delhi airport was buzzing with enthusiastic fans eager to catch a glimpse of their heroes and the coveted trophy. Chants of “India! India!” filled the air as the players emerged, basking in the adulation of a nation celebrating their historic win.

The victory procession of the Indian team is currently underway in Mumbai! The team members are slowly moving towards the Wankhede Stadium in an open bus. A sea of fans lines both sides of the road, greeting the world champions with thunderous cheers. The players are reciprocating the enthusiasm, waving and acknowledging the adulation. Cameras captured Virat Kohli in high spirits, holding the trophy aloft and leading the cheers for the fans. Captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah are all part of the celebratory procession. Hardik, in particular, seems to be beaming with joy, constantly acknowledging the fans’ greetings and soaking in the celebratory atmosphere.
