“I don’t feel pressure. My goal was to win the gold medal: Anmol Kharb”

Faridabad: Anmol Kharb, the young badminton player who helped India win the gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championship in Malaysia, is a rising star in the sport. She never takes pressure on herself and doesn’t care who her opponent is or how big a player they are. She simply focuses on her natural game and the lessons taught by her coach.

In the final match against Thailand, Kharb went into the court with the sole purpose of winning the gold medal for her country. She didn’t even think about the fact that she was ranked 472nd in the world, while her opponents were all ranked in the top 50.

Whenever she made mistakes, she changed her game according to the instructions of national coach Pullela Gopichand. Gopichand also taught her that even though she might get tired during the match, she should never let her opponent know that she is tired. Otherwise, the opponent will take advantage of it and she will start making mistakes.

Kharb’s father, Devendra Kharb, was present in the court during the match and he cheered her on by shouting “India-India” alone. After the match, she would talk to her mother, Rajbala, who would encourage her in Haryanvi. Kharb also said that she has learned a lot from Olympic medalist and senior team player PV Sindhu.
