A massive fire ripped through a building in Kuwait’s southern Ahmadi province on Wednesday morning, killing at least 41 people. According to reports, a significant number of the deceased are Indian migrant workers.

The blaze originated in the kitchen of the six-story building located in the Mangaf area. Officials have confirmed that roughly 160 people resided in the building, all employed by the same company. Many of these workers are believed to be from India.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has established a helpline for those seeking information regarding Indian casualties in the fire. The helpline number is +965-65505246. The embassy has pledged to provide all possible assistance to those affected.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy. “The fire accident in Kuwait is deeply saddening,” he stated. “My heartfelt condolences go out to everyone who lost loved ones. Praying for a speedy recovery for the injured. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation.”

Kuwaiti authorities have taken decisive action. Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad al-Yousef al-Sabah has ordered the arrest of the building owner in Mangaf. He has placed the blame for the incident squarely on the company and the building owner, directing the Kuwaiti administration and municipality to take the most severe measures possible.
