Ignoring Traffic Rules Can Cost You Big: Bengaluru Woman Faces Rs 1.36 Lakh Fine
A Bengaluru woman has learned a costly lesson about following traffic regulations after being slapped with a hefty Rs 1.36 lakh fine. CCTV footage captured a staggering 270 violations committed on her Activa scooter. These violations included riding without a helmet, carrying extra passengers, driving on the wrong side of the road, and blatantly ignoring traffic signals.
The incident throws light on Bengaluru police‘s intensified efforts to crack down on habitual traffic offenders who disregard traffic rules and fail to pay their fines. Authorities across the city are taking a zero-tolerance approach, with several scofflaws facing significant fines exceeding Rs 50,000.
In a similar case earlier this year, a Bengaluru resident received a shocking Rs 3.2 lakh fine for unpaid traffic violations accumulated on their two-wheeler. The police issued a stern warning, stating that even stricter consequences would follow if the outstanding dues remained unsettled.
This trend highlights a growing concern. Just weeks ago, Bengaluru’s Joint Commissioner of Police, MN Anucheth, revealed a disturbing statistic: over 2,681 vehicles in the city have amassed traffic fines exceeding Rs 50,000. Furthermore, authorities hinted at the possibility of filing FIRs (First Information Reports) against such chronic offenders, potentially escalating these cases into criminal proceedings.
The hefty fine imposed on the woman serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic laws. Not only do these regulations promote road safety for everyone, but neglecting to pay fines can lead to serious financial repercussions. Bengaluru’s crackdown on traffic scofflaws signifies a clear message: follow the rules, or risk facing the consequences.
