Bansuri Swaraj Takes Oath in Sanskrit as Member of Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the New Delhi constituency on Monday. The event marked the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha, during which all MPs took their oaths. However, Bansuri Swaraj’s oath-taking ceremony stood out due to her choice of language: she took her oath in Sanskrit, creating a memorable moment in Parliament.

Bansuri Swaraj’s decision to take her oath in Sanskrit mirrors the actions of her mother, Sushma Swaraj, who also chose Sanskrit when she first took her oath as an MP in the 16th Lok Sabha. Emphasizing this familial tradition, Bansuri shared a video of her swearing-in, stating, “Today, as a representative of the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, I had the honour of taking oath as a Member of Parliament of the 18th Lok Sabha.” She expressed her commitment to advancing the vision of a developed, prosperous, and self-reliant India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This marks Bansuri Swaraj’s debut as an MP, following her victory over Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate, Somnath Bharti, in the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Bansuri secured 453,185 votes, defeating Bharti, who received 374,815 votes, by a significant margin of 78,370 votes.
