Jackie Shroff Seeks Protection for “Bhidu” in Delhi High Court

Veteran actor Jackie Shroff has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking legal protection for his name, likeness, and the unauthorized use of the term “Bhidu.” The case is scheduled for a hearing on May 15th, with a potential interim order following the proceedings.

Shroff’s lawyer, Advocate Pravin Anand, argued that the actor’s image has been misused in offensive memes and his voice misappropriated for similar purposes. The petition seeks protection for the names Jackie Shroff, Jackie, Jaggu Dada, and Bhidu, stating these attributes cannot be used without his authorization on any platform.

The petition further requests the Department of Technology and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to remove links and websites that violate his personality rights. This follows a similar case last year where Anil Kapoor successfully protected his name, voice, image, and signature catchphrase “jhakaas” from unauthorized use.

Social media has reacted to the news with mixed responses. Some users questioned Shroff’s claim to the word “Bhidu,” considering it a common term in Mumbai slang. Others joked about the potential impact on the fictional character Krishna, known for using the phrase “mera baccha hai tu” (you’re my kid).
