Infosys Founder Gifts Shares Worth Crores to his four-month-old grandson

Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy has gifted shares worth over Rs 240 crore to his four-month-old grandson, Ekagrah Rohan Murthy. This windfall  makes Ekagrah a multi-millionaire at a very young age.

According to an exchange filing, Ekagrah now holds a 0.04 percent stake in Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services company. This translates to 15,00,000 shares. The gift comes at a slight cost to Narayana Murthy’s own holding in the company, which has decreased from 0.40 percent to 0.36 percent, or roughly 1.51 crore shares.

Interestingly, the transaction was conducted through an “off-market” method, as revealed in the filing. This suggests the shares were transferred privately, bypassing the usual stock exchange channels.

The news coincides with Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy’s joy of welcoming their third grandchild. The baby boy was born in November to their son Rohan Murthy and his wife Aparna Krishnan. The couple are also grandparents to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murthy’s two daughters.

This generous gift from Narayana Murthy has sparked discussions about inter-generational wealth transfer and financial planning for future generations. It also highlights the Murthy family’s commitment to their loved ones.
