Faridabad based Bangladeshi Human Organ Trafficker Apprehended by BSF at West Bengal Border
Kolkata: In a major success for investigating agencies, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi human organ trafficker while attempting to cross the border into India. Md Mehedi Hasan (27), from Narsingdih district, Bangladesh, was caught by the North Bengal Frontier troops near the Berubari-II Border Outpost in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal.
Hasan was carrying a significant amount of cash, two high-end mobile phones, and fraudulently obtained Indian identification documents, including a driving license, PAN card, and Aadhaar card. He confessed to obtaining these documents in Faridabad, Haryana, where he had been involved in organ trafficking at private hospitals.
During questioning, Hasan revealed he initially came to India on a medical visa in July 2019. In Delhi, he met someone named Subhash who helped him acquire fake identification. Since then, Hasan facilitated human organ trafficking, handling large sums of money through illegal hawala channels. He was previously arrested by Haryana Police in August 2022 for possessing a Bangladeshi passport but released a month later.
Hasan’s role involved translating for Bangladeshi patients at Faridabad hospitals and arranging illegal organ procurement. He received payments through hawala, keeping a share for himself before paying the donors or their families.
Apprehended with the seized materials, Hasan has been handed over to the Jalpaiguri police station. Soorya Kant Sharma, Inspector General of BSF’s North Bengal Frontier, lauded the troops for this breakthrough, which could lead to dismantling a major cross-border human organ trafficking operation.
