A World of Coffee: Cuban Espresso and South Indian Filter Reign Supreme
Coffee, beloved for its captivating aroma and bold flavor, is a drink enjoyed across the globe. According to TasteAtlas, a respected culinary authority, a ranking of the top 38 coffees from around the world has recently been released, with two unique brews taking the lead: Cuban Espresso and South India’s Filter Coffee.
Cuban Espresso stands out as a sweetened espresso experience. This coffee is prepared by incorporating sugar directly into the brewing process with dark roast coffee beans. The brewing method can be done using either a classic stovetop espresso maker or a modern electric one, both res ulting in a delightful layer of light foam on top of each cup.
In contrast, South India’s Filter Coffee is celebrated for its distinctive brewing technique that utilizes the traditional Indian filter. This two-chambered device, typically made of stainless steel, features an upper chamber with a perforated base to hold the coffee grounds and a lower chamber for collecting the brewed coffee. This brewing method is particularly widespread in South India.
Coffee enthusiasts often prepare the filter the night before, ensuring a rich and flavorful coffee awaits them in the morning. This strong coffee is then combined with warm milk and sugar, creating a comforting beverage. Traditionally served in a metal tumbler and saucer known as a “dabara,” the coffee is frequently poured back and forth between the two vessels to create a delightful froth before it’s enjoyed.
The release of this list on social media has generated a variety of reactions. While some have praised the selections, others have expressed surprise at the absence of a well-known Italian coffee among the top contenders.
