Rahul Gandhi Questions: No Dalit, Tribal, or OBC Women among Miss India Winners
Web India News
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated his demand for a caste census, citing the absence of Dalit, tribal, or OBC women among Miss India winners. He argued that 90 percent of the population is excluded from the mainstream. Gandhi pointed out that top media anchors are also not from these marginalized communities.
“I have reviewed the list of Miss India winners, and none were Dalit, Adivasi, or OBC women. People may discuss cricket or Bollywood, but they ignore the cobbler or plumber. Even top media anchors are not from the 90 percent. We need to know how many in institutions, corporations, Bollywood, and Miss India are from this 90 percent. I’m merely stating that 90 percent lack ‘bhagidari’ (participation), and this needs to be examined,” Gandhi said during a ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ in Uttar Pradesh.
Criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, Gandhi questioned, “They claim that Modi ji embraced someone, and we have become a superpower. But how can we be a superpower when 90 percent of the people have no participation?”
Gandhi called for a nationwide caste census, emphasizing that it was not for political reasons but to include the marginalized 90 percent of India’s poor in the mainstream. “I am not pushing for a caste census for political reasons. For me, it is about integrating the 90 percent of poor farmers of India into the mainstream of this country. This is my mission, and I will pursue it even if it leads to political setbacks,” he asserted.
Notably, the Congress party had pledged to conduct a nationwide socio-economic caste census in its manifesto during the Lok Sabha election campaigns.
